"Check-A-Dial"

If you plan to go on a quest to purchase a sundial there are a few things you should be aware of. Whether you are shopping at a garden centre or on the internet there are many "wanna-be" or novelty sundials. More than you would ever expect! They may look nice but there is no way that they will ever tell the time correctly. In fact if they come with setup instructions you may as well just throw them away.  It will save you a lot of frustration trying to accomplish the impossible.

If you are seriously looking for a functional horizontal, vertical or equatorial sundial then the "Check-A-Dial" and associated instructions will be of use to you.  Figure 1 illustrates the "Check-A-Dial" devices for horizontal and vertical sundials.

If you would like to have the "Check-A-Dial" you can download a pdf file that contains the devices and instructions.  Print the device on card stock and cut it out. Fold it in half and glue. It's just that easy!
