This
horizontal sundial is 10 inches square with a gnomon 4.25
inches tall. The inscription includes the owner's mane and the
name of the estate.
Dr. Lapp wrote:
"This
horizontal sundial is made of polypropylene(?) board and vinyl
truck lettering cut out with a computer guided machine. I was
attempting to make an inexpensive dial which could be easily
varied for latitude. The lettering was guaranteed for 7 years.
I threw one up on the roof and didn't look at it for 3 years.
Got it down, washed off and it was as good as new."
As this dial
illustrates there are innovative ways to create a sundial. And
it doesn't require a lot of money - just some imagination!
