Icons

There are twelve main icons that surround the base of the Pinawa Heritage Sundial. They are intended to illustrate the history of the Eastern Manitoba region as well as important factors which played a role in the development of the area. Two additional icons consisting of two granite tiles each finish off the base on the left and right sides. Another four granite tiles make up the central medallion surrounding a portion of the gnomon.

Elements from the granite icon tiles are echoed in the gnomon. This unifies the major elements of the sundial making it a visually appealing structure and more interesting to visitors.

Icon tiles shown in black and white.

The next four pages provide descriptions of the main icons as well as the additional ones. The icons do not follow a chronological order in their layout on the sundial. They are presented in the order that they are placed on the dial from the left with the three additional icons presented last.

Please take the time to visit these pages and discover the meaning behind the Pinawa Heritage Sundial.
