This is a
photograph of the first sundial that I designed and
built. This was in the summer of 1999.
The sundial is
a horizontal dial made of brass and is 9 inches across.
It is designed for the location where the Pinawa Heritage
Sundial is to be built. The hour lines have been
corrected for longitude and it is set to read Daylight
Saving Time. The dial has also been adjusted to
compensate for the width of the gnomon. A graph of the
Equation of Time is included and when this correction is
made to the reading on the dial it will give standard
time.
The sundial
was designed using a computer aided drafting software
package. Once the design was complete, I plotted a full
size drawing of the sundial. The sundial was fabricated
using a photographic etching technique by a company
specializing in making brass plaques.

This
is an illustration of the drawing that was used
to create the sundial plate and the gnomon. |
The sundial
was given away in a raffle which was the first
fundraising event held in support of the Pinawa Heritage
Sundial.
TELL
ME ABOUT YOUR SUNDIAL!
If you have
been involved in the design and/or construction of a
sundial I would appreciate knowing about it. I would like
to get a photograph and a short description of the
project. This information would be included as part of
this site. Visit "Sundials of the World".
